Driver view
The Consigns driver view is built for people out on the road. Drivers see their assigned jobs on any mobile device, complete collections on site, and capture customer signatures without paper forms.
Opening the driver view
Drivers sign in to Consigns with the account they were invited to use. They see only the collections assigned to them.
It works in a mobile browser, so there is no separate app to install. Drivers can bookmark the login page or add it to their home screen.
The driver's day
The driver's home screen, My jobs, is their plan for the day. The work assigned to them is grouped so today's collections show first, with anything coming up and anything still waiting below. Each job card shows:
- Customer name and site address
- Waste description and EWC code
- Scheduled collection date
- Any special instructions added by the office, such as gate codes or PPE
Tapping a job card opens the full details, so the driver can check everything before they arrive on site.
Completing a job on site
When the driver arrives, they open the job and start the collection. Consigns then walks them through it:
- Check the waste details - description, quantity, and container type
- Confirm the vehicle used for the collection
- Capture the customer's signature on the driver's device
- Finish the collection, which signs off the carrier's part and creates the consignment note
A straightforward collection takes under a minute. It replaces the paper form drivers would otherwise fill in by hand.
If the waste cannot be collected
Sometimes a load is not right to take, for example the waste does not match the booking or the site is not ready. The driver can mark the job as cannot collect and give the reason, so the office sees what happened and can sort it out.
The consignment note on the phone
Once the load is collected, the consignment note exists with the carrier's parts filled in. The driver can open and show it on their phone right there at the roadside, which is handy if anyone needs to see the paperwork during the journey. This works even with no signal (see offline mode below).
Capturing customer signatures
The signature screen gives the customer a clear area to sign on a phone or tablet. The driver can clear and retry before confirming.
The signature is added to the consignment note PDF as the customer's sign-off for the waste transfer.
Offline mode - how it works
Waste collections often happen where mobile signal is poor. Consigns is built to handle this.
When a driver opens their assigned jobs, the data is cached locally on their device. If they lose connectivity during a collection, they can still:
- View all job details
- Complete the collection flow
- Capture the customer signature
The completed collection is saved on the device and waits until the connection comes back.
Syncing when back online
Once the driver's device has an internet connection again, any waiting collections are sent to Consigns. The consignment note PDF is created, the job updates on the jobs board, and the record is stored.
Drivers do not need to do anything. A notification confirms when each job has synced.
